After last year’s soggy event at Santa Pod, you’ll be pleased to know that we have made changes to the layout of the show which we’re sure will be beneficial to visitors and traders alike.

There’s no denying that the weather affected the show last year, but the summer of 2007 was a washout across most of the country, so it wasn’t just MITP. However, we have your comments ringing in our ears and can now reveal further details of this year’s show.

Firstly, what most of you want to hear is that the important stuff will be on tarmac. That means most club stands, the trade village, concours, autojumble and the Minimag stand will be on hardstanding next to the dragstrip. This in itself should prevent many of the issues from last year, and as such trade stand bookings are booming so there will be a lot more retailers to pick up your bits and bobs from.

These changes now mean there is more room for camping and bigger and better Rally-cross stage on the grass, opposite which will be the tactically situated beer tent and funfair, alongside a challenging Autotest circuit.

New for 2008 is a 10 minute tech tent where you’ll be able to join in and work on one of Minimag’s cars, helping with a quick fix; we’re also bringing along a rolling road for you to test your Mini’s output after which you can visit Mini expert Keith Calver and ask him what you need to do to improve your performance, as well as any other queries.

To inject some action into the day the ¼ mile dragstrip and grandstand will be open all day where we expect to see top engine builders competing for the fastest time of the day, as well as owners trying to beat their own personal bests. If that’s not enough, it will cost just £20 for unlimited runs up the strip, so you can fettle your Mini to your heart’s content until you get your best time.

Club activities this year will include a prize for the best club stand, plus more club challenges we have planned, including welly flinging, tug of war and human table football!

For those who prefer to show off their cars rather than race them, the concours area takes pride of place at the show and will itself be a major attraction. Make sure you get to the show early as entry for concours closes at 10.30am on the Sunday. There will also be a dedicated ‘For Sale’ area for those looking to part with their beloved car.

As part of an all-encapsulating event you are invited to come and camp over on the Saturday, where gates will be open from noon with entertainment in the form of three bands, a Mini pub quiz (set by the Minimag team), a funfair and an indoor screening of The Italian Job. The bar will be open and barbeques are welcome, but sadly Santa Pod cannot accommodate any animals at the venue, sorry. There will also be plenty of kids’ entertainment so make it a family day out and bring a picnic!

All in all you should be able to tell that we have made significant changes to the show that should result in a massive improvement for showgoers. Hope you enjoy.

Mini Mag Track Evening at Brands Hatch PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 June 2008 17:00

Mini on Brands Hatch I thought i would let you all know about the Mini Mag trackday thats happening on the 3rd of September.
It an evening event with an open pit-lane. All minis welcome and its free to anyone who just wants to watch.

HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST? £119, which i think is very good for Brands Hatch. :)

Full info you you.

THE TRACK EVENING
Here is your chance to join other Mini owners for an evening of track action on the famous Brands Hatch Indy circuit. The open pit lane format will ensure you will have all the circuit time you can handle whilst developing your skills in a safe and controlled environment.

The event will begin with a comprehensive safety briefing that will cover everything from rules of a trackday through to car preparation and driving techniques.

For those of you new to trackdays or Brands Hatch, there will be a detailed circuit briefing in minibuses at 5 o’clock, driven by our race instructors who will show you everything they know about the track and give you a few tips before you head out in your own car.

OPEN PITLANE
After a few compulsory sighting laps behind a pace car you will then have until 8 o’clock to really explore your car’s potential as well as your own.

After track time has ended there will be a BBQ at the Kentagon where you can share tales of how fast you went through Paddock Hill Bend, before heading home at what will seem a rather leisurely pace after your evening on the famous Kent circuit.

COME AND WATCH
In addition to the cars on circuit people are welcome to come down free of charge and watch the track activity, park up their cars, meet other enthusiasts and chit-chat about Minis and the like.

The Kentagon restaurant will be open until approx 10pm, and there is plenty of parking space around it with outside lighting for people to have a look around the other cars.

Come and join the excitement and get on track with Mini Magazine.
